About

My art is about connections.  Sometimes, the connections are between people, or to a significant object, most often my art is about my connection to the land. I live and work on a grazing property and my respect and love for the land deepens daily. The land, the weather and the subtle complexities of changing seasons largely guide my life and art, which is often made in response to the seasonally changing palette of the landscape.

Inspired by artists such as Mark Rothko, John Coburn, Rosalie Gascoigne, and Fred Williams, I aim to capture the complex simplicity of the colours and forms of my subject matter, through painting, drawing and collage. My images include expressive mark making to energise the spaces in a work. I enjoy layering colour over bold forms in a minimalistic abstract style.  Some works incorporate images and text to suggest a narrative or provide a visual anchor that might hint at the connections depicted in the work.

Through an exploration of Abstract Sequential Art, this body of work further explores my connection to the land, and also the way one art work connects to the next to create abstract, minimalist landscapes that stand alone or together, as a rhythmic conceptual experience.
